Hrishikesh Joshi is a famous Marathi actor.

He was born in the city of Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He currently stays in Mumbai, which is the center for the Bollywood as well as the Marathi film industry. He studied at The National School of Drama, which is in India’s capital, New Delhi. He earned a postgraduate degree with a specialization in acting from over there in 1997.

He is known for his acting in Hindi as well as Marathi films. He has contributed a considerable amount to television serials too. He has acted in Marathi pictures such as Aajcha Divas Majha, Harishchandrachi Factory, ‘Deool’, and ‘Yellow’. All these movies were highly acclaimed and won several awards. The directors conceptualized Harishchandrachi Factory, by making the picture’s title, Raja Harishchandra . It was the first ever film to be made in India.

He is multilingual and knows four languages, which include three Indian ones. These are English, Hindi, Marathi, and Sanskrit. Before starting to act in films, he was a part of more than 50 stage plays, which included all Hindi, Sanskrit and Marathi ones. Going a step ahead in the Indian world of drama, he was chosen to represent the Indian nation in Sri Lanka. It was during The Sri Lankan Theatre Festival where he performed the Sanskrit play, Abhigyan Shakuntalam. It was acted out in the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo, and also a city called Candy.

He is known for his picture, Vishnupant Damle: The Unsung Hero of Talkies. It is a docudrama about Shri Vishnupant Damle, who was a co-founder of the legendary Prabhat Film Company.

Just two years after he had left The National School of Drama, he secured the Best Actor Award from the State Govt. of the Maharashtra State, in 1999. This was for his play ‘Shobhayatra’. He has done a total of more than 400 performances for the play, Mukkam Post Bombilwadi, which the makers created for commercial purposes. Another such play for which he has done an exceptional number of performances is Sangeet Lagna Kallol. He has done this play more than 150 times.

He has played roles in famous Hindi movies like Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. He is remembered for his writing too, along with acting. He was given the authorship of a column in the Marathi newspaper, Loksatta, and also wrote occasional articles for other news dailies. He formulated screenplays and dialogues of quite a few films and television series.
