After a year, he joined Jayanti Shevale as the fifth assistant. From 1980 to 1985, Thakre worked with Rajshri Productions and worked on several films, including Raksha Bandhan, Sun Meri Laila, Saransh, and Abodh. During this period, he had the opportunity to work with Sarosh Modi, a legendary makeup artist, who took him on as an assistant.

Thakre learned a lot under Modi's guidance, and the most productive phase of his career was during this period.
