Dinkar D. Patil was born on 6 November 1915 in the village Benadi near Kolhapur in Bombay state; he passed away at 89 in Kolhapur.
He completed his schooling and then completed a BA in Literature from Kolhapur. He was also a college magazine editor.

He was an eminent Marathi film director, scriptwriter, and dialogue writer of the Golden Era of the Marathi film industry.
He lived in Mumbai for most of his life but returned to Kolhapur with a desire to spend the last years of his life there.
