Chitra Navathe, born as Kusum Sukhtankar is a Marathi actress. She had mesmerized the audience with her brilliant acting. Chitra spent her childhood in Miranda Chali in Dadar, Mumbai. She completed her education till class 7 in primary school on Bhavanishankar Road in Mumbai. She dominated Marathi cinema in the fifties. She was one of the very versatile actresses at a young age. In 1951, she performed her first significant role in Lakhchi Gosh. After that, she performed as a heroine in various films such as ‘Vahiniche’ Bangdya', 'Gulacha Ganapati', 'DevBappa', and Mohitya Manjula'. She played the role of Ajji in the films 'Bokya Satbande', 'Agadbam', and Tingya.
She was married to Raja Navathe. Her husband was an Indian film producer, director. He is known for films like Raj Kapoor-Nargis starrer Aah and thriller Gumnaam. Her husband passed away due to illness in 2005. Chitra Navathe spent her last days in a nourishing home despite being with her relatives and friends. She breathed her last at the age of 89. She had been treated at Sarla Nursing Home in Mulund for more than one and a half years.Â
