Rajeev Nath

Rajeev Nath was born in the year 1951 in the Changanassery district of Kerela, India. He is a South Indian film director by profession. He started his career as one in the year 1976. After completing his studies at University level, he decided to enter the field of film direction. Initially he shot a short film with the help of a 16mm camera. He liked working this way so he decided to make it his professional camera. Then in the year 1976, he directed a film named ‘Thanal’ individually. The movie was well appreciated and got a lot of critical acclaims. He is mainly famous for directing Malayalam movies.

His debut film also made him win the Kerela State Film Award under the category of best director. The lead actor in the movie, M.G. Soman, also won his only Kerela State Film Award under the category of best actor. Then in the year 1998, he directed a film inspired by the short story written by O.V. Vijayan. It was called the ‘Indian Panaroma’ at the International Film Festival of India. It was also the only Indian movie which got an entry in the Alexandria Film Festival. But in India the movie got very mixed reviews. He always wanted to direct movies in a way that its cost always remains under budget.

It made him win “National Award for Best Direction” and the movie was also shown at Oslo located in Norway. Again a controversy happened to him in the year 2007 when he planned to make a film named “Ezham Mudra” which was going to be a tribute to “Casablanca” based on the Lankan Civil War. This news was immensely covered by international media, calling him a Bollywood Director, but again the film was unable to be made. He also directed the movie named “Pakal Nakshatrangal” in the year 2008 and the Hindi movie named “Anubhav: an Actor’s Tale” in the year 2009. He got married to Sreekumary, and the couple has two children named Vishwanath and Shankarnath.
