Won Bin is a South Korean actor, born Kim Do-Jin. He was born on 10th November 1977 in Jeongseon County, Gangwon Province in South Korea. Won has three elder sisters and an elder brother and he is the youngest one in his family. His father worked in a mine and his mother was a farmworker. Won holds a black belt in Taekwondo. He was highly interested in car and motorcycle racing. During his childhood, Won dreamed of becoming a car mechanic. He went to a mechanical high school and learned car mechanism and repair works. When he was doing his last semester in high school, he attended an audition for new actors on a cable TV channel. After getting trained, he started acting in dramas.
In 1997, he made his debut in Propose, a drama in a supporting role. After playing in the 1998 movie, Ready Go, he grabbed the attention of the audience. In the same year, he did an acting course at Paekche Institute of Arts. Next year, he was offered a lead role in Kwangki, a drama. In 2000, he got a huge break in his career with a couple of dramas, Kkokji, aka Tough Guy’s Love, and Autumn In My Heart. After these two series, he got a huge fan base. In 2002, he was seen in Friends, jointly produced by South Korea and Japan. Besides dramas, he had also played in many films, Saturday, 2:00 Pm, Guns & Talks, Taegukgi, My Brother, Mother, and The Man from Nowhere. After The Man from Nowhere that released in 2010, he didn’t sign any films. He had been the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2007. Won Bin took part in many programs and charity events for UNICEF in Korea. He had also worked in many promotional videos for UNICEF.
In 1999 at the 13th KBS Drama Awards, he won The Best New Actor Award for Ad Madness. In 2000, at14th KBS Drama Awards, he won the Excellence Award for Tough Guy's Love and Autumn in My Heart. He had also won awards at 37th Baeksang Arts Awards, 12th Chunsa Film Art Awards, 27th Golden Cinematography Awards, 47th Grand Bell Awards, 8th Korean Film Awards, 31st Blue Dragon Film Awards, 6th University Film Festival of Korea, Cine 21 Awards, 2nd Film Journalists Association Annual Film Awards, 8th Max Movie Awards, 11th Korea World Youth Film Festival and 48th Grand Bell Awards.
Won Bin is married to Lee Na Young since 2015 and they have a child.
