Cho Seung-Youn was born in Seoul, South Korea, on August 5, 1996. He is a record producer, composer, rapper and dancer. He is well-known by his stage name Woodz. His star sign is Leo, and he has the blood type O. His parents, both business owners, raised him well as he is an only child. His mother operated a Chinese restaurant in Cheongdam-dong and a travel agency in Sinsa-dong, both in Seoul's Gangnam area. In contrast, his father had a Korean restaurant in the Philippines. During his childhood, he often moved from one place to another due to his family's business commitments. Cho disliked urban music such as K-pop as a child and instead preferred Korean ballads. However, when Cho began to feel homesick while studying overseas, he turned to episodes of the South Korean music show Music Bank to help him cope. He returned to South Korea to pursue a musical career after being inspired by Lee Seung-song Gi's "Let's Go on a Vacation”. He enrolled in the Practical Dance Department at Hanlim Multi Art School but began one year late owing to his stay in abroad. He joined Dong-ah Institute of Media and Arts' Division of Entertainment in Broadcasting after graduating from Hanlim in 2016. He then went to Global Cyber University, where he majored in Entertainment and Media. He rose to prominence as the primary rapper and sub-vocalist of the South Korean-Chinese boy band Uniq, founded in 2014 by Yuehua Entertainment. Cho Seungyoun, better known by his stage name WOODZ, made his UNIQ debut on October 16, 2014, releasing their debut single, "Falling in Love." In 2015, he co-founded the musical collectives M.O.L.A, and in 2016, he co-founded Drink color. He co-founded his production team, Team HOW in 2018.
Cho debuted as a solo artist under the stage name Luizy in July 2016, following his performance on the fifth season of the South Korean rap competition program Show Me the Money, with the release of the collaborative hip-hop track "Recipe." In 2018, Cho changed his stage name to Woodz to reflect a shift in musical approach. Woodz's releases, including the hits "Pool," "Different," and "Meaningless," ventured into alternative R&B, with Cho switching from rap to singing. He has written and produced songs for singers in both his home Korea and China, as well as for the series The Unit: Idol Rebooting Project and Idol Producer, in addition to his solo work.
Cho appeared on the South Korean survival show Produce X 101 in 2019. He finished fifth, earning him membership in the show's derivative boy band, X1. In August 2019, he made his X1 debut through Swing Entertainment with the album Emergency: Quantum Leap and the title single "Flash." Following the group’s disbandment on January 6, 2020, as a result of the Mnet vote-rigging probe, he began his solo career as Woodz, releasing his debut EP Equal on June 29, 2020, with the title single, "Love Me Harder," "Recipe," "Baby Ride," "How Have You Been," "Pool," "Meaningless," "Clap Clap," and "Bump Bump" are among his other
