Sanjay Jadhav was born on July 18, 1970, in Maharashtra, India. He finished his school education at M.H. High School in Thane and pursued higher education from Vidya Prasarak Mandal’s Polytechnic college in Mumbai. He is married to Promita Jadhav, and the couple has a child, Mrunal Jadhav. Sanjay Jadhav commenced his career as a cinematographer in 2004. Before venturing as a director, he worked on Marathi films like Savarkhed: Ek Gaon, Saatchya Aat Gharat, Pak Pak Pakaak, Dombivali Fast, Aai Shappath..!, Saade Maade Teen, etc. as a cinematographer. In 2007, he debuted in Kollywood with the film Evano Oruvan, an official remake of the Marathi movie Dombivli Fast.

Sanjay Jadhav decided to take up direction and made the film Checkmate in 2008. He performed as a director, writer, and cinematographer for the movie.
