But Veeru Devgan started his career in Bollywood with his personal conviction. He did not have any god father but even had dreamt of becoming an actor. Since he did not possess a chocolate hero look, he ultimately gave up his decision and became a stuntman. But he had always dreamt that his first son should become an actor in future.

Thus, his dream came true, and Ajay Devgan became one of the most talented actors in Bollywood. Even when Ajay wanted to make his debut as an actor, people had laughed at Veeru Devgan’s decision but Ajay proved the critics wrong and established him as an actor. It was 1967, when Veeru Devgan was just 17, he had run away from his hometown in Amritsar and landed up in Mumbai with his three friends. They had traveled without a ticket in the train from Amritsar to Mumbai and even landed up in jail for ticketless traveling.

As Veeru and his three other friends were penniless, they were jailed for a week and later were released. Veeru and his colleague tried to gain support from Punjabis to settle in Mumbai, but that yielded no result. So his friends went back to Amritsar while Veeru stayed back in Mumbai to make his career in Hindi cinema. He used to wash cars and began working as a carpenter. Soon, Veeru’s granduncle came to Mumbai to take him to Amritsar.

But after staying in Amritsar, he again came back to Mumbai and aborted his carpenter job and took up free-style wrestling career. He was widely recognized as a stuntman in film ‘Anita’ which never released. After long and arduous time as a stuntman, he got his first break in Manoj Kumar’s Roti Kapda Aur Makaan.

After the success of this film, he received many offers and never had looked back. Almost every blockbuster movie of Amitabh Bachchan needed Veeru Devgan as a stunt director. Later he also worked with Raj Kapoor's film such as Prem Rog, Shekhar Kapoor's Mr. India and K. Raghavendra Rao’s films Himmatwala and Mawali. The stunt director ruled Bollywood from early 70’s to late 90’s. Since he was close to Amitabh Bachchan, he even directed a movie for Mr. Bachchan and had cast Ajay Devgan in a film named ‘ Hindustan Ki Kasam Click to look into! >> Read More... ’(1999). Veeru Devgan retired as a stuntman as his health did not permit him. He has choreographed fight and stunt scenes for over 80 Hindi films.
