Pramod Bhagat is a well-known Indian Para-Badminton player. He was born on 8 June 1988 in Hajipur, Bihar. He was from a farmer's family. At the age of five years, he got a permanent disability due to polio in his left leg. At the age of 13, he got fascinated by the Badminton Game and then never allowed his disability to come his way towards his goal. He played his first match in the Normal category at 15.
Internationally, he started playing in 2006 at the FESCPIC Games (Asian Para Games) but lost the competition. In 2013, he bounced back by winning the Gold medal in the World’s Men’s Double Championship held in Dortmund, Germany. His winning journey continues with a Bronze Medal in the Asian Para Games for India 2014. In 2015, he won the Gold Medal in the BWF World’s Championship Single Category and Silver in the Doubles Category. In the 2018 Para Asian Games, he won the Gold Medal in Men Singles SL3 and Silver Medal in Men’s Double SL3 and SL4 Category.
He got tremendous appreciation for winning the Gold Medal In Men’s Singles and Doubles Category in the BWF Para-Badminton World Championship held in Basel, Switzerland, in 2019. In 2020, He debuted in the Tokyo Para Olympics and won a Gold medal in the Men’s Single’s Category. For his contribution to sports, he received the Arjuna Award in 2019 and the Khel Ratna Award, the highest sports award in India in 2021. He received the Biju Patnaik Sports Award Odisha in 2019.In 2022, he was honored with the Padma Shri Award.
