Gayathri Iyer is a famous playback singer of Bollywood. Born in Mumbai, Maharashtra she completed her graduation from Mumbai and her MBA from the prestigious IIM Lucknow. She entered the arena of Bollywood with her IIM tag. As a playback singer, her first song was in the Telugu film Ghulabi released in 1995. Later on, she got her first Hindi song Tere Dil Ne from the movie Loafer in1996.
The song was a duet sung with Shankar Mahadevan and got her on the track to her dream. She sang consecutively in many Films like Muqaddar, Daanveer and Insaaf. Anand-Milind the famous duo used her magical voice for many songs in the 90s, however, she somehow went unnoticed. It was with the film Chura Liya Hai Tune in 2003 that she got her big break. Music Director Himesh Reshammiya used her voice for the song Mohabbat Hai Mirchi that hit the charts and despite the film being a total flop, the item number starring Rakhi Sawant was a great hit among the audience. Gayathri lent her voice to many songs in films like Dhoom, Kya cool hai hum, Rudraksha, Black, Roadside Romeo.
She is married to the famous playback singer Kunal Ganjawala. Another popular song of hers is My Dil Goes Mmm From the film Salaam Namaste. The film features Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta, and the duet was sung alongside her husband, Kunal. Gayathri is also known for her rendition to the remake of the song Chhoti Si Umariya mein lag gaya rog. The remake was a hit among the youth. Her songs in the film Bride and Prejudice starring Aishwarya Rai also won acclaim. She also received International acclaim for a musical at West End, London where she essayed the role of a princess.
