Gaurav Madan is from Yamuna Nagar, a tiny, dusty town in Haryana, India. He works as a writer, producer and director. At the age of ten, he has a fascination for both writing and music. His short stories and poems got published in children’s book such as Nandan, Champak, and Hindi newspapers like Dainik Bhaskar and Punjab Kesri. After completing his M.Sc. in Communication Studies at the University of Pune, Gaurav moved to Bombay to pursue a career in filmmaking. Numerous T.V. and online ads have been developed by Gaurav. Over 200 T.V. and digital advertisements have been produced and directed by Gaurav, who also owns his own production company, Last Joker Pictures, which is situated in Mumbai.

Gaurav’s screenplay for a feature film “Shaktipur Crude,” was included in the esteemed Sundance Screenwriters Lab in 2014. He has since participated in other writer’s rooms and advanced to the semifinals of Cinestaan Storytellers in both the years 2017 and 2018. “Sambhavtaha” his 2017 short film, earned multiple prizes, including Best Writer, Best Director and Best Short Film for Gaurav Madan. It was screened at over fifty national and international film festivals, including IDSFFK, MAMI and Kolkata International Film Festival. In May 2020, the movie and another short film that Gaurav wrote, “Syah: So Be It,” were released on Zee5. 2020 May saw the premiere of the movie on Zee5. Barah by Barah (12x12 Untitled), Gaurav’s first feature film, had its international premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2021. It also had its Indian premiere at I.F.F.K., Kerala.

It was screened at over forty international film festivals. It took home the Grand Prix for Best Film 2021 at FIPRESCI India and the Best Director prize from the Pune International Film Festival. The film has participated at other film festivals and garnered multiple accolades. Gaurav’s second feature film script, Kanda Vanda, was selected for development at the Dhaka International Film Festival’s West Meets East Screenplay Lab and participated in the N.F.D.C. Filmcity Script Lab. Reliance Entertainment is set to produce another script of his called Shani Yantra. Apart from the awards mentioned above, he has won many other awards like Best Director by Critics Choice Short Film Awards and D.W.F S.A.F.F., Best Writer by Nickel International Film Festival for the movie Barah By Barah and Sambhavtaha.
