Deeya Singh is a prominent Indian television producer. She and her real-life husband, Toni Singh, founded the Indian television shows Production Company, DJ’s Creative Unit. She is known for creating novel concepts and ideas, which brought innovation in the television industry. Deeya studied at Welham Girls’ School and later attended the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai. Subsequently, she studied Arts at St. Xavier's College. She is the doting mother of Giaa Singh and Jashn Singh. Giaa is a trained western dancer and a classical vocalist. She and Tony were the first ever producers who brought the international series to India, which will surely change the Indian television’s sphere. She is also working in the comedy crime television series, Police Factory on SAB TV; Zee TV’s Kaala Teeka and the sequel of Parvarrish – Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi.

Shobha Kapoor is a film and television producer from India and the Managing Director of the much acclaimed Balaji Telefilms, a serial production house based in Mumbai. It is now run by her talented daughter Ekta Kapoor. Shobha mainly takes care of the production and administration activities of the company. She has co-produced many cult Hindi serials such as ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ from 2000 to 2008, ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’ also from 2000 to 2008, ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’ from 2001 to 2008 and ‘Kaahin Kissii Roz’ from 2001 to 2004. She is married to veteran actor Jeetendra, and they have two kids, Tusshar Kapoor, and Ekta Kapoor. Shobha and Jeetendra were dating each other for 13 years before their wedding, and former was working as an air-hostess then.  Shobha hails from Sindhi (now part of Pakistan), and she says that she inherited her business skills from her late maternal grandfather, who was a successful businessman from Karachi.  After marriage, Shobha ran a boutique back in the 90s to bring up her kids as her husband Jeetendra’s film career was going topsy-turvy. It was later in the year 1994 that the family ventured into production which was a flop initially. Eventually, in the year 2000 they created Balaji Film, and soon they got the contract of the hit serial, ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’. About Ekta, Shobha opines that the former is a very creative personality and manages finance extraordinarily.  Shobha also says that she has a stable relationship with her daughter, who needs someone to understand and support. It was with Ekta that she produced their first film “Kyon Ki Main Jhoot Nahi Bolta’, but, unfortunately, the film didn’t fare well at the box office. After the creation of Balaji Motion Pictures, they produced another movie ‘Kucch Tho Hai” featuring Tusshar Kapoor and Anita Hassanandani, which was a failure at the box office. But later in the year 2010 and 2011, two successful films got released under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures.

Niret Alva

Niret Alva, an anchor-producer of the television industry, was born in Bangalore in 1965 to Niranjan and Margaret Alva (both lawyers). Following his mother’s election to the Rajya Sabha, he moved to Delhi in 1974. He possesses a bachelor’s degree in History from St. Stephen’s College (Delhi University) and a post-graduate diploma in Journalism at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC). Further, he went to Holland to pursue a television course in News and Current Affairs from the Radio Netherlands Training Centre in Hilversum. He has also completed his LLB from Mumbai University. He began his career when television was still controlled by the government in 1988, by holding the post of trainee reporter and scriptwriter at the Press Trust of India. Soon after, he began working as a correspondent on Eyewitness by the Hindustan Times’ video news magazine in 1990. For the next two years, he was reporting from various places within the country about diverse topics from sex and violence to Rajiv Gandhi’s assassin. He worked for documentaries, business shows, news, as well as programs directed for the youth. He is known to have scripted and directed ‘The Great Descent’, an award-winning documentary based on a journey about the Brahmaputra post the 2000 floods on a raft. In 1992, he joined hands with his brother, Nikhil Alva, and co-founded a television production company called Miditech. The company, in the 24 years of its existence, has been successful in producing series and programming. Some of its top clients include StarPlus, Disney, Zoom, Discovery Channel, etc. It has covered different genres from children’s shows (Galli Galli Sim Sim) to reality shows (Indian Idol). Miditech’s weekly environment based show titled ‘Living On The Edge’, which was hosted by Niret is the proud recipient of the Panda Award at Wildscreen in Bristol (1996). He hosted BBC’s weekly automobile show called ‘Wheels’ in 1998 and won the Asian Television Award for Best Anchor. Moreover, he has presented with the Indian National Award for Excellence in Science based Communication in the Visual Medium in 2007. He married Anuja Chauhan (author, ad-woman and writer) in 1994 after a five-year-old relationship and has three children namely Niharika, Nayantara and Daivik.
