Sapan Chakraborty was an Indian Singer and Composer. He used to compose music for Bengali and Bollywood or Hindi films. Sapan completed his education from the University of Calcutta. He had been working under the assistance of Rahul Dev Burman. He wrote lyrics for a lot of songs in Rahul Burman’s Bengali Films. Sapan was also an occasional playback singer. Along with composing songs for which he was the composer, he also penned lyrics for Durga Puja Special Albums. His composing style influenced his Guru Rahul Dev Burman. His sad demise occurred on 23 August 1995 in Kolkata.

He composed for Hindi Movies such as Naya Nasha in the year 1973, 36 Ghante, and Jab Andhera Hota Hai in the year 1974. He was also a composer in the film Zameer, in the year 1975. His Debut in Bengali Films was from the movie Mohonar Dike in the year 1984. In the year 1988, he was a composer for four Bengali movies, namely Shurer Akashe, Tufan, Choto Bou, and Monimala. In the year 1989, he showed his composing skills in the film Kari Diye Killam. Monmayuri, Madanda, and Mahajan are the movies in which he was the creator in the year 1990. In the following year, he composed songs for other Bengali films, Bidhilipi and Nilimay Nil. Movies like Mahashoy in the year 1992, Antoratama in 1995, Sarbajaya in 1997, and lastly, Mayer Dibyi in the year 1998 had him as the composer.

The Song Mere Saath Chale Na Saaya from Kitaab was one of his hits.
