Salim Merchant is a mesmerizing Music director, playback singer, Instrumentalist and also a programmer. He is much illustrious for his works in, ‘Bang bang, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, Heroine’, to name a few. He kicked off his career in this industry with his brother, ‘Sulaiman Merchant’. They were essentially composing background scores. Then, came a contingency with Karan Johar’s, “Kaal”, which galvanized their song composing potential. Salim got the hang of Piano, from ‘Trinity College of Music-London.’ He was one of the critics of the reality show, ‘Indian Idol.’ This was aired on Sony Entertainment Television. Very eminent playback singers like, Anu Malik and Sunidhi Chauhan were also critiquing the contestants. Now that Salim is blessed with a girl child, he is very keen on doing Kids movies. He has mentioned in an interview that, ‘he is not okay with composing music for adults only lyrics’. He is also the Brand Ambassador for ‘i-genius’. The Merchant siblings have won innumerable prestigious awards like, ‘Star Screen Awards’, ‘Filmfare Awards’, ‘Daytime Emmy Awards’, ‘Mirchi Music Awards’ and the list goes on.
Sandesh Shandilya is an Indian musician working in Bollywood. He is also a singer and composes music for films. He is famous for his music album Piya Basanti which came out in 2001. Shandilya was born in Agra on 19th February 1968. He lived there up to the age of21. His father taught military science at a college. Shandilyafelt a connection towards music from a young age. So he got himself to get trained from Shri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra in Delhi.
When he turned 21, he went to Mumbai to pursue a career in music industry. He began assisting SurinderSodhi. He gained knowledge by being a pupil of Ustad Sultan Khan, the famous Sarangi Maestro. He not only focused on classical but also on Western music.
For that he studied western classical from Elisabetta Brusa hailing from Italy. He learned the classical style of playing piano from JeoFernandes. He enhanced his singing ability by learning classical vocals from RajashreePathak. Shandilya composed music for two films Dholnaand Pyaarke Geet in 2000. He gained his big break by composing music in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. He has also composed for films like Agnivarsha: The Fire and the Rain, Koi To Baat Hai, Huna Huna, Rules: Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula, Uuf Kya Jaadoo Mohabbat Hai... ,Iqraar: By Chance and Rang Rasiya. He has been noted for his music in Chameli and Road.
His most loved work is the song "Aoge jab Tum Sajna" from the film Jab We Met. Also, his 2001 hit album Piyabasanti was super hit and won many awards. The album received International Viewers' Choice Award at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. His Guru Ustad Sultan Khan sung the famous song“PiyaBasanti” from the album. His music can be found almost in every hit song. He is considered to be young yet seasoned composer Indian Music Industry has ever had.
He also received La Reel award for the best original soundtrack for the film Road to Sangam in 2010. He performed his symphony “Searching for Buddha” at the WDR Rundfunk Orchestra in Cologne, Germany. His performance was set to run fortwo days in Feb 2015.
