With acting and scriptwriting in her genes, Sohalia lived the journalist's life before accepting the creative writer in her. Sohalia was born as the daughter of Dr. K. B. Kapur, who was the physician to Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, former President of India. As a child, she lived in her own fictitious world. Once in an interview, Sohalia admitted that in her early life, fantasy and reality were blurred together. Everybody and everything was story and eventually she became more serious about penning these stories down.

At a very young age these stories in her minds turned into plays which she staged, casting her friends as actors and issued tickets which she made on a typewriter. Her plays had the central theme of a society which lived in harmony with no religious boundaries to split them. Her fascination with writing, casting and ticketing plays did not go away with time. Even in college she did shows and founded the Ruchika Theatre Group with Feizal Alkazi, son of the famous Indian theater director Ebrahim Alkazi. Soon enough, life caught up with her, and one of the first questions it posed was what full-time job she wanted to choose – Theatre or Journalism. Sohalia moved to Mumbai to pursue her career in Journalism and continued to work there for ten years. During this time she got married, had a child and relocated to Canada for a few years.

However, the 90s saw her return to the theater with her becoming the director for adaptations of famous works of “Ouch”, “Tattoo”, “Rumi” etc. She wrote the play “ Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan was a comedy genre drama >> Read More... Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan ” which staged at the Edinburg Fringe Festival. The name “Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan” was later changed to “Mahim Junction” and this became one her better known works. Sohalia recently appeared in the movie, " Phantom Click to look into! >> Read More... Phantom " which starred and . The movie was based on the 26/11 attacks. Although not a central character, hers was well acclaimed and noticed by the critics. She currently lives in her New Delhi home, where she was born and raised. Her recent projects include a plan about writing a book about Dev Anand and others in her family. Off late, she works in Lok Sabha TV and continues her works in the theater.
