Persis Khambatta was an Indian model and actress born on October 2, 1948 in a middle-class Parsee family, in Mumbai. She is best known for the classic Hollywood movie called “
: The motion picture” (1979) where she played the role of llia. Star Trek is considered to be the best movie of all time. This gave her the ticket to Hollywood and she acted in 21 movies and TV serials. She also co-produced a movie called “Phoenix the warrior” and wrote a book called "Pride of India".In the year 1980, she met with a major car accident in Germany, which left a scar in her head.
She was the Former Miss India 1965 and also entered Miss Universe the same year, but she wasn’t fortunate enough to be the Miss Universe. In the year 1981, she acted in the movie Nighthawks, where she bagged the role of Shakka Holland. She also featured in famous movie called Megaforce (1982) and warriors of the lost ark (1983). She was also considered as a best actress for the title role in famous “James Bond” movie Octopussy (1983) which later passed over to Maud Adams. Khambatta became the first citizen of India, to present an Academy Award in 1980. She was nominated for Saturn Award Best Actress for her Star Trek role. Khambatta also made guest appearances on many popular American television series.
In 1997, a year before her death, she wrote and published the coffee table book “Pride of India”. The book featured Former Miss India’s winners and she dedicated that book to Mother Teresa and some part of the royalties went to the Missionaries of Church. She died of a heart attack on August 18, 1998 at the age 49 in Marine Hospital, Mumbai.
