Born on 20 July 1929, Rajendra Kumar is a Bollywood actor. He entered the film industry during the year 1950. He worked in over 80 movies in his career of 40 years. The 1960s were favorable for him, since he was highly successful during that period. Rajendra Kumar was not inclined towards playing hero roles and hence, he started his film career as an assistant director. After having tried his luck as an assistant director to H. S. Rawail, he took up acting. The film, ‘Jogan’, established Rajendra Kumar as a star to reckon with. He acted in a supporting role in ‘Mother India’, and the film was a huge success. The film, ‘Ghooj Uthi Shehnai’, showcased his romantic acting skills and he was the lead hero of the film. The film was a success. Several of his films celebrated silver jubilee and he got the recognition, “Jubilee Kumar”. Dil Ek Mandir, Dhool Ka Phool, Sangam, Mere Mehboob, Suraj, Arzu, etc. were commercially successful. From the year 1972, his career started sloping since Bollywood witnessed the charisma of Rajesh Khanna. Kumar turned to character roles and also worked in a few Punjabi films. Later he acted in Hindi films like ‘Khosle Ka Ghosla’, which was the greatest blockbuster in the year 2006 and ‘Parineeta’, which passed by the box office as just a normal movie that neither attracted the audience nor refrained them. So he returned to the Bengali films and continued in that industry till 2009. In the year 2010, he returned to the Bollywood industry with the two greatest blockbusters in that year; one being ‘Ishqiya’ and the other one being a crime thriller ‘No One Killed Jessica’. Later on, he continued with some of the other flicks like ‘Bedeni’ a Bengali film directed by Anjan Das, ‘Bye Bye Bangkok’ another Bengali film directed by Aniket Chattopadhyay, ‘Paapi,' ‘Punorutthan,' ‘Chillar Party.' The movie ‘System’ directed by Shahzad Ghufoor in the year 2014 was a big blast at the box office for him after a long time, but was again back to his performance with the movie ‘The Dirty Picture’ starring Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan, ‘Ghanchakkar’ starring Vidhya Balan and Emraan Hashmi and directed by Raj Kumar Gupta was again a flick in his career.
