But he quit his ambition midway and attempted to start a company with his friends in 1997.

The passion for acting always stayed with him so he produced a TV serial named Seeta Mahalakshmi in 2000, for which he won eleven Nandi awards, which are an equivalent of Oscars in the Telugu industry. He went on to produce short films in New York, and became better in the course of time. To direct Animal, he came to Hyderabad and completed shooting. The flick was about the end of time, where all humanity perishes, and due to necessities, humans evolve into animals. While he was prepared to leave after completion, Neelakanta approached him and offered the lead role of the movie Nandanavanam 120 km.

That was the first time he got a film offer, so he was excited to be an actor and get to work immediately. Being an ardent fan of Neelakanta also helped in accepting his offer. He appreciates him saying that he has a natural talent for seeing ordinary things uniquely. The reviews show that Ajay did justice to his character in the film, and will do another project soon.
