Zamil Majhari was an Urdu poet and lyricist. His real name was Meer Kazim Ali. He was born in Patna in the state of Bihar and completed his early schooling in Muzaffarpur. Zamil then went to Calcutta for further studies and got a master’s degree from Calcutta University. Zamil then started his career in journalism however, it lasted only 6 years. During that period he got a chance to write a lot. He indulged himself in prose writing and wrote a lot of essays. Most of his essays were centered on the political situation of the country. This led him to join Congress in 1937. Later he left politics and joined Patna University and taught Urdu classes.
He retired in 1964 and committed himself to Urdu literature and poetry. He wrote a set of poems and published the Nazms as ‘Naqsh – e- Jameel’ and his Ghazals were published as ‘Fikr – e – Jameel’. He gave lyrics to various songs such as ‘Aayi Hai Tu’, ‘Tu Aa Gayi’ and ‘Mohabbat Ke Gul’ from the movie ‘

’ (1945) and ‘Koi Kisi Ko Yaad Aaye’ from ‘Baap’ (1946), ‘Ab Ansu Ponch Dalo’ from ‘Jhoothi Kasamein’ (1948) and ‘Hum Tumhare Ji Tum Humaare’ from the movie ‘Jawani Ki Aag’ (1951). Zamil died on July 23rd in 1979.
