Ramesh Shastri was born on 2nd August 1935 in Bombay (Bombay Presidency when Bombay and Gujarat were together). Ramesh Shastri completed his primary education and received his higher education from Benaras. He had his college degree in Sanskrit and PhD in Sanskrit. Raj Kapoor was about to perform for his second film, Barsaat. He wanted some different songs for his film and thereby launched a talent hunt. He gave an advertisement in a newspaper asking for a person to pen lyrics for his upcoming movie’s songs. Ramesh Shastri gave his poems for the talent hunt, and one of his best-selected poems, Hawa mein udta jaaye, was further selected as the song of the movie.
Ramesh Shastri, though did not had a long tenure in the film industry, is still a memorable personality for his evergreen lyrics that he gave to the Hindi film industry. Ramesh Shastri is better known for his hit songs like Hawa mein udta jaaye from #Barsaat (1949). He also penned the lyrics for other various films like Har Har Mahadev (1950), Usha Haran (1949), Jai Mahaakaali (1951), and Ram Vivaah (1949). Ramesh Shastri gave many songs to the industry - devotional songs and films and many of his poems were adapted as featured or titled songs for the movies. He also penned lyrics for the songs for radio. He retired from his college teaching job in 1990. Ramesh Shastri passed away on 30th April 2010 in Ahmedabad.
