Uma Anand was an Indian broadcaster, actor, and journalist in the middle of the 20th century. She was born in 1923 in Lahore, Punjab, British India. Indu Mitha, one of her sisters, is an exponent of Bharatanatyam who resides in Pakistan. Following the divorce from her husband, she grew close to Ebrahim Alkazi. Anand served as an editor of Sangeet Natak, a journal published by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, from 1965 to 1981. Additionally, the National Book Trust of India translated and published several of the children's books written by her in various Indian languages. Her final book was Chetan Anand: The Poetics of Film, which depicted life in Mumbai, India's theater and cinema in the early 1940s and 1950s.
