Supriyo Sen is an Indian film director. He lives in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Honestly, he worked as a journalist; then he became an independent filmmaker. He directed the short documentary Wagah has been screened at over 200 film festivals and was voted the third most well-liked short film within the world in 2009 by the German short film magazine. Also, he won the Berlin Today Award at the Berlin Film Festival. His two-hour documentary on the Partition of India Way Back Home is the first Indian documentary to be released commercially.
Sen is a Berlinale Talent (international young filmmakers’ program by Berlin Film Festival). He has served as a Juror at several film festivals, including the Busan International Festival, Taiwan International Documentary Festival, DMZ Documentary Festival (Korea), Eagle Award (Indonesia), Kolkata International Film Festival, Dhaka International Short and Documentary Festival, SiGNS (Kerala) and Indian National Award seldelion. In 2018, his short documentary Swimming Through The Darkness won the most effective Exploration / Adventure Film (Including Sports) in 66th National Film Award, Hope Dies Last in War, which won the National Film Award for the Best non- Feature. The story of 54 prisoners of the Indo-Pak war never came home. As their families still wait, they walk the tragic tightrope between hope and despair.
Moreover, he has received grants from Sundance Documentary Fund, Jan Vrijman Fund (IDFA) and Asian Cinema Fund (Busan International Film Festival), DMZ Docs Fund several times and worked with NHK, DW TV, Planet, Goethe Institute, Films Division, PSBT and German, French American and Japanese producers. In 2000, “The Next” short documentary won the National Film Award for Best Environment / Conservation / Preservation Film in 48th National Film Award. The story of an unusual bond – between a family and its feathered friends.
Supriyo has also received grants from Sundance Documentary Fund, Jan Vrijman Fund (IDFA), and Asian Cinema Fund (Pusan International Film Festival). Nowadays, his film “Tagara Blues” is a 2021 Indian Bengali language musical thriller film. It has released on 15th April 2021.
