Sarmistha Maiti is a significant writer and director who studied Film Editing at Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI). Sarmistha was born in December 1979 in Haldia, West Bengal. She has studied in Kendriya Vidyalaya in her childhood days and later in Jadavpur University for Comparative Literature. Sarmistha's father wanted her to become an engineer, but she decided to do post-graduation in Comparative Literature with her husband's support. Sarmistha started her career as a journalist in the Hindustan Times and Times of India. Later, she shifted to copywriting for an ad agency.
Sarmistha is also famous for her books, including "Forbidden" and "3 On A Bed". In 2007, while doing a Film Editing course, she met Rajdeep Paul Bio coming soon... >> Read More... , who later collaborated with Kalkokhho. Sarmistha and Rajdeep have also worked together for two short films, Malai, and Kayantar which earned them National Award for Best Director. She is also known for films such as The Woman and The Man and At The Crossroads Nondon Bagchi Life and Living. Currently, Sarmistha works as an art critic and curator, writer, and independent filmmaker in Kolkata.
