Kirti Jain is a Bollywood director, writer, and professor. She was born in 1949 and had a Master’s in English Literature from the central university, Delhi University. She has a diploma in Theatre studies where she specializes in directing. She started her career as a television producer for the broadcasting channel Doordarshan from 1972 to 1977. Professor Kirti later joined her alma mater National School of Drama, fulfilling the role of the School’s Director. During her tenure (1977-1985) in the institution, she started Theatre in Education program (TIE). Later, joining the Indian Theatre History department of the school as a professor. Throughout her journey, she has utilized her theatre studies and greatly impacted the theatre practice in India.
Professor Kirti has represented women’s role and contribution in international and national work conferences, workshops, and universities. Her theatre anthologies were published as journals and essays. Her directed works highlight the social, political, and economic implications of society. These include Hamara Shahar Us Baras, Sab Kuch Chakachak, Aur Kitne Tukde, and Kaun Thagwa Nagaria Lootal Ho. In 2010 she was awarded B.V. Karanth Smriti Puraskar for her contribution to Theatre. She was awarded Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her direction in 2011. She was also a member of the editorial board of the theatre journal Studies, published by the University of Exeter, United
