Kanwal Sethi was born on 1971 in Amritsar, Punjab. He is an Indian – German film director and screenwriter. He went to SSSS Khalsa Senior Secondary School. He soon developed a fascination with filmmaking and opened a theatre group. He also performed on several stages with it. In 1992, he went to Germany and qualified in Political and Economics Science from TU Dresden. He then moved to Leipzig, where he set up his stage production and worked on his film projects.
He produced short films and documentaries such as Raga: Colouring The Mind (2004) and Details (2005). He then marked his debut in 2011 with the film Fernes Land, which premiered at the Max Ophűls Prize Film Festival. His succeeding movies were Once Again, released in 2018, starring
