K. Amarnath was also known as Amarnath Gelaram Khetarpal, and he was an Indian Hindi cinema film producer and director. He was born on December 1, 1914. His place of birth is Mianwali, Punjab, British India (now in Pakistan). He was raised in Mianwali and pursued his college education from Lahore, Punjab. He completed his studies at Rangmahal School in Lahore. His nationality is Indian, and his zodiac sign is Sagittarius. His father was Gelaram Khetarpal. He married Soumitra Batra, with whom he had four children, named Manmohan, Satish, Madhu, and Manju Amarnath Das.
K. Amarnath was passionate about acting since childhood and left his home at 17 years of age to fulfil his dream to become an actor in the film industry. He was strongly influenced and inspired by Hollywood & British movies made in the 1920s and 1930s. He struggled for four years acting in minor roles only, firstly in Calcutta and then in Bombay. But he never lost his patience and passion, and then he realized that the director was in complete control of the film and hence a more critical role than the actor. In 1937, the founder of Mohan Studios, film distributors Ramaniklal & Mohanlal Shah, offered him the opportunity to direct a Tamil film titled ‘Danger Signal.’ He later directed five Tamil movies for Mohan Studios. Within a year, he directed four movies, including ‘Minnalkodi’ and ‘Veer Ramani,’ both of the films starring B. Srinivasa Rao and K. T. Rukmini, became super hit in 1937.
In 1940, he became famous as a hit-maker and known as the fastest director in the film industry. He established his own Production Company, named ‘K. Amarnath Productions,’ in 1952.
