John Mathew Matthan is an Indian director, who mainly works in the Bollywood film industry. He started his career as an Assistant Director to Richard Attenborough in the 1982 British-Indian epic biographical film, Gandhi. He also worked with Govind Nihlani, a renowned film director, whom he assisted in several films before he shifted to directing advertisements. In the early 90s, John founded his own production company, the Cinematt Pictures Pvt Ltd, along with his brother, George.
They have released their first feature film in 1999 entitled Sarfarosh, which he penned, produced, and directed. John started working on Sarfarosh in the year 1992 and spent seven years on researching, pre-production, and the production of the film. But when it was released in 1999, all his hard work paid off because the film earned critical and commercial success. After this, he started to work on a script that tackles the issue of brain drain, but when the 9/11 tragedy occurs, the script lost his aptness and John decided to make another film, which was entitled Shikhar (2005).
The film earned critical success, but didn’t do well at the box-office. In 2007, he started working on his next film, A New Love Ishtory. The film was completed in 2009, but it was released in 2013 due to some issue with the lead star and his record label, the T-Series. Recently, it was reported that he will be doing a sequel of Sarfarosh, which will still have Aamir Khan Aamir Khan or Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan is Bolly >> Read More... in the leading role. However, nothing was confirmed as he is still busy working on two-three films, which he didn’t want to divulge.
