Gauri Warudi is an Indian journalist, producer, writer, and director. Born on 28th August 1934, she is the founder of the Dublew Films that is renowned for making short films and documentaries. She completed her school education from Covent Girls’ High School, Mumbai.
After her schooling, from 1977-1979, she joined Grant Medical College to complete her post graduation in MSc, Micro Biology. Along with the research work of her degree, she acquired a certificate course in Medical Lab Technology and even interned at Bharat Laboratories, Thane. Subsequent to this, she pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Sophia Polytechnic College, Mumbai in the year 1980.
After completing her education, she got a job as a Sales Promotion Executive for Hitech Laboratories, Mumbai in the year 1985. In 1990, she started freelancing as a writer and wrote for Job Express for three years about job experiences overseas, Young Mother Magazine for two years, TV and Video World Magazine for three years and CARE magazine also for three years.
Also, she worked for All India Radio as a Casual Announcer (English) for three years at this time. As she was freelancing for different organizations from 1990, she was also writing for big names like the Indian Express and Times Group. She worked as a freelancer for The Indian Express for ten years and the Times Group for eighteen years. She was also writing a column on Marathi Films, TV and Theatre for the Film Trade Weekly Screen as a film critic.
After she completed a basic course in Digital Film Production from Vishki Institute of Media Studies Pune in 2006, she turned into a filmmaker. In the year 2007, she helped in the launch of a Marathi web channel saptarangi.nautanki.tv as a producer and planner but worked with them for only a few months.
Since then she has written, produced and directed seven documentary films and two short fiction films. She has even directed a short fiction film for an NGO. In 2013, she started her short films and documentaries making firm and named it Dublew Films in Pune and created many award-winning documentaries. She has 11 awards and honors for her work. Some of the prizes include: Silent Ghungroos won the Best Documentary Film Award in 2007, Padharo Mhaare Des won the Best Documentary Award in 2012 in 2nd Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival, Ek Tohfa- a Parting Gift won the International Independent Film Award in 2014, Ek Tohfa- a Parting Gift won the best direction award in Pink City International Short Film Festival and LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! Film Festival in 2014.
Guari has proficiency in four languages; Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi. She has dedicated her life to the field of media and writing for over 27 years now.
