Bishnu Dev Halder is an Indian director, writer, and producer. Born and brought up in the Bengali family, he aspired to be a filmmaker since the age of 13. Bishnu went to military boarding school, Sainik School Bhubaneswar, and graduated with English literature. In 2007, he completed his post-graduate Diploma in Direction and Screenplay Writing from Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute. In 2007, Bishnu won National Film Award for the Best Non-feature Film on Social Issues for his documentary short 'Bagher Bachcha' and was bestowed the honor by the Honourable President of India, Smt. Prativa Patil. He made several documentaries such as Dilli Chalo (2009), The Diary of a Refugee (2012).
In 2020, he made his debut in OTT platforms with the movie Shukranu, produced by Reliance Entertainment. It drew a positive response from the viewers. In 2010, Bishnu awarded the UK Environment Film Fellowship for his documentary Blocks of Green. He also presented the film to the audience at British Council, Kolkata. For his film, I Was Born in Delhi, which took five years for making; Bishnu got nominated at International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, 2011. He also received the Best Film Award for the film 'I Was Born in Delhi' at the Asia Livelihood Film Festival, New Delhi 2012.
He started his own media company 'Bee Pee Motion Pictures' and later changed the production house name to 'Courtyard Entertainment Pvt' in 2012. Bishnu has appeared in several publications like Simply Kolkata for their exclusive cover stories on young filmmakers. In one of the articles, The Times of India hailed Bishnu as one of the successful alumni of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute. He has been conducting workshops across the country on documentary filmmaking in India.
