Amit Dutta is a filmmaker and writer. He was born on 5 September 1977. He is one of the significant contemporary practitioners of experimental cinema. He is known for his distinctive style of filmmaking. His works mainly deal with art history and cultural inheritance. Amit has graduated from the Film and television institute of India, Pune, in 2004. In 2015, he taught at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. He started his career by making several short films. Kramasha is a short movie released in 2007; it was regarded as a defining achievement in experimental cinema. The film has won many national and international awards. It was also included in the list of the thousand best movies.
He also made a documentary, Ramkhind, an observation of the daily life of the Warli village people. In 2010, since Nainsukh, his interest focused on art-historical and cultural aspects of Kangra Valley. Amit’s films have been screened at various museums and film festivals. His works have received many national and international awards, including the Golden Conch and Best Film of the festival award in Mumbai. The Oberhausen film festival, Germany, has archived a selection of his movies.
