Nihita carried herself impeccably well under pressure and did not lose her temper during dicey situations. The other contestants admired her courage and confidence. She was 20 years of age when she got married to her spouse, Charles Sobhraj. Convicted of various felonies, the gambler, drug dealer and murderer claimed to have fallen in love with her at first sight. The couple had faced a lot of trouble before they got married under the French law. They got harassed because of their different origins as Charles belongs to Vietnamese ethnicity whereas Nihita is Nepali. Nonetheless, the duo stuck by each other even through the rough times. Charles was married to Chantal Desnoyers before entering into wedlock with Nihita.

A reliable media source reported that they got married on October 9, 2008. Nihita wished the wedding to be elaborate and wanted to invite many reputed people to a lavish ceremony. However, it was held interior to the prison grounds as Charles was imprisoned at the time and hence, avoidance of publicity became a priority. To symbolize their marriage as a sacred occasion, they decided to get married on the day of Bada Dashami, which is considered to be a hallowed day in Nepal. Nihita denies all charges of immoral activities against her husband and urges people to disbelieve any such falsification. She trusts her husband with all her heart, and she is convinced of his good character. On July 7, 2008, she issued a press conference to absolve her then fiancée from all charges.
