Nisar Bazmi

Nisar Bazmi was a Composer and a Music Director. He was born on 1 December, 1924. He was born in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. He was a music director of the Indian and the Pakistani film industry. He was active in the industry from 1944 to 2007. Nisar was from a poor background. At the age of 11, he joined Yasin Khan’s Qawwali group. After that, Khan Saheb Aman Ali, a prominent figure in the Indian music industry was impressed by his musical interest and taught him music for four years. Nisar mastered various Ragas and musical instruments at just the age of 13. All India Radio hired him as an artist. He composed some songs for a drama that started the beginning of his success. Nisar Bazmi composed songs for forty films in India. He composed songs for movies like Jaib Katra, Daag Baaz Dost, Khaufnaq Aankhein, and more. It was through his compositions that new singers like Alamgir and Mahnaz Begam found a platform in the industry. Later on, Nisar immigrated to Pakistan. He met veteran producer Fazal Ahmed Karim Fazil, who invited Nisar to compose music for Pakistani films. His first song in Pakistan was Mohabbat Tere Sar Ki Kasam.

The turning point of his career in Pakistan was through the film Lakhon Me Aik. He won many awards for the songs he has composed throughout his career. He won the Pride of Performance award in 1994 by The President of Pakistan. He also won the Best Music Director Award seven times for different films he has worked in from the Nigar Awards. He is widely remembered for his compositions in songs with singer Ahmed Rushdi. Nisar has been called as a man of rare imagination. He always used to study the storyline and the setting of the movies he would be composing songs for before he began.
