Hindi Cinematographer Rajan Kothari

Rajan Kothari was a well-established Cinematographer. He brought life to a scene through his Camera. He did not limit his talent by being only a Cameraman. Rajan Kothari also learned the ropes of Direction and became one. Rajan Kothari was born in a trader's family that sold oilseeds and cotton. His grandfather faced loss in the business and hence Rajan’s father was forced to take another job to save his family from poverty.

His father took up photography that helped them survive. Rajan grew up among cameras and darkrooms and thus inherited his father’s passion and love for photography. He grew up watching movies of Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, and Keaton. Rajan’s uncle was linked with the Film Society, as he was a part of the music circle, Anandam. Rajan did not plan to become a Cameraman. He loved medicine and wanted to become a Doctor. Unfortunately, he did not get the required grades to get admitted to a medical college and hence chose Cinematography.

In the year 1973, he got enrolled in Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), in Pune, to study about Cinematography. (2009), The Memsahib (2006), Hari- Bhari (2000), Dil Kya Kare (1999) and so on. Rajan Kothari turned into a Director through the film Purush, in the year 1994. Das Capital Ghulamon Ki Rajdhani and Panga Naa Lo are the two other movies he had directed.

Sadly, Rajan Kothari passed away on September 26, 2012.
