Munmun Dhalaria is an independent filmmaker, writer, editor, photographer, and National Geographic Storytelling Explorer. She was born on 24th July 1991 in Dhinjon, Assam. She mainly works on topics of wildlife conservation, gender, and science communication. Her interest in wildlife was piqued at the very young age of 15 while studying urban radio coyotes. She completed her graduation in Mass Media and Mass Communication from IP College, Delhi University, in 2012. She received her master's in arts degree in Media and Cultural Studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, in 2014. In 2018, she received a grant from National Geographic for her directorial documentary on the Western Tragopan, which later developed into a short film titled, The Jujurana’s Kingdom (2020).

She has shot several short documentaries on NGOs working for wildlife conservation and social issues like women’s rights. She has also worked as an Assistant Director and Cameraperson for the wildlife conservation series, On the Brink, season 2 (2020). It focused on showcasing various Indian wildlife species and habitats and comprised 10 parts. Munmun works as a Documentary Director at Moon Peak Films. She is also an independent Producer/Director for Vice News (an online channel) and works as an Assistant Producer at Wildstar Films, Bristol, UK. She is the recipient of the National Geographic Young Explorer grant, 2020. She was awarded this grant for her filmmaking projects in the western Himalayas.

Her other works include documentaries like Tayiya Kanasu (2017), which was awarded the best documentary at the 6th Aarogya Film Festival and received an honorable mention at the Public Health Film Festival, Oxford, An Uncertain Winter (2017) which was the winner of ICIMOD Mountain Film Award at KIMFF Kathmandu, Nepal, Covid Response – A Himalayan Story (2020), Tenzin Tsundue (2021), Ladakh Pashmina (2021), No Water No Village (2021), Inside the Opioid Crisis Gripping this Himalayan State – Trouble in Paradise (2022), Written Out of History – Forgotten Indian Scientists (2022).
