Avinash Oak, a well-known audio educator and sound engineer, resides in Mumbai. He did a Diploma in Cinema (Sound Engineering & Sound Recording) course, stood first and won a Gold Medal at the Film and TV Institute of India, Pune, from 1970-73. He was active at the institute as a member of the Audio Engineering Society. He works as a member of the managing committee there. In 1986, he attended a course for audio engineers at the University of Surrey, England.
He worked as an Audio Associate Director at Western Outdoor Media Technologies from January 1974 to February 2003, tasked to engineer the recording sessions for songs of feature films, private albums of Indian Classical, Ghazals, Indi-pop genres of music, TV and Radio Commercials, Sponsored Programs, Son-et-Lumiere Sound Tracks, Ballet Sound Tracks, Audio-Visuals, and Corporate Videos. He worked as an Engineer and Partner at Neosonic Recording Studio from May 2004 to October 2006. He has been a Visiting Faculty at various institutions in Mumbai since 1994 and has shared his knowledge with many students. Some of them are Mumbai Music Institute, NID Ahemadabad, Satyajit Ray Film & TV Institute, and Rishabh Digital Vadodara.Â
He has been an Audio Educator at the Zee Institute of Media Arts in Mumbai since January 2006, where he teaches a short course in sound recording developed by him. He also teaches at Soundideaz Academy, the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and Deviprasad Goenka Management College of Media Studies. He is a freelance engineer with his consultation firm called Avisound. He is a lifetime member of Audio Engineering Society, Inc. USA. The mission of AES is to promote the science and practice of audio by bringing the leading people together.
He has been recognised for his work and received many awards, which include the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indian Recording Arts Association (2015) and the Outstanding Contribution to the Music Industry Jury Award at the Mirchi Music Marathi Awards.
