Bornfree art school's creator and artistic director, as well as a trustee, is John Devaraj. He is an engineer by training, but a passionate artist of the arts. He is a sculptor, painter, architect, movie and stage art director, musician, documentary filmmaker, photographer, dramatist, actor, puppeteer, facilitator, and consultant for culture, youth, and children's events. He's also known as a Malgudi Days performer and art director (1986). He's also the sculptor and artistic director of Janotsava, a non-profit organization based in Bangalore that engages impoverished children in cultural events and stage plays about children's issues. Other nations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America where children are being exploited are visited by Janotsava's company.
