Mahesh Kanodia’s full name was Mahesh Kumar Kanodia. He was a Gujarati singer, artist, musician, music composer, and politician. He was born on January 27, 1937. Mahesh Kanodia’s place of birth is Kanoda village (now in Patan district, Gujarat), British India. He completed his primary education at Shahpur School in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Mahesh Kanodia started to perform as a stage singer & dancer along with his younger brother Naresh Kanodia. They were one of the successful & famous musical pairs in the Gujarati film industry. They were also known as the Mahesh-Naresh duo in the Gujarati film industry. During the 1980s, Mahesh Kanodia and his brother were the first pair who traveled overseas to perform as stage artists in locations, including America, Africa, and some other Asian countries. In 2011, “Sauna Hridayma Hammesh: Mahesh- Naresh,” an autobiographical Gujarati book based on brothers, was published.

In 1947, he was the pioneer in bringing the concept of the musical orchestra to India. He could sing in more than 30 voices of famous playback singers, including female voices. He had performed more than 13,000 shows worldwide since eight years of age. He had worked for four decades in Gujarati cinema as a musician, composer, and singer. He received several Best Music Awards for his performance as a music composer for the films, Jigar and Ami (1970-71), Tanariri (1974-75), Jog Sanjog (1980-81), and Laju Lakhan (1991-92). He also won the second Best Film Award as a producer for the film Jog Sanjog in 1980-81. In 1981-82, he won the Best Playback Singer Award for the film Akhand Chudlo. He was a versatile actor and used to represent the Patan constituency of North Gujarat in Lok Sabha four times as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As a politician, he dedicated himself to empowering the poor and the backward. Mahesh Kanodia died on October 25, 2020, in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, due to prolonged illness and Covid-19. He had a brain stroke seven years ago, and he was paralyzed since then. His younger brother Naresh Kanodia also died two days later due to Covid.
