In the show, Rukayya is a mother figure to Pari, who is very young. Pari’s mother had run away with a man her parents disapproved.

Ever since, Rukayya has taken care of Pari, who was just an infant at the time when her mother, Husna, abandoned her. Rukayya gave Pari the beautiful name she’s called by. During this disastrous incident, Pari’s mother’s brother died. Soon, her father dies out of shame and embarrassment. Now the family consisted only of Apa Bi (Husna's mother), Salma (Husna's widowed elder sister), Ruqayya (Salma's daughter) and Naseeban (the Family maid). Pari was being prepared to either be sold or killed, but only Rukayya had the heart to take care of a parentless child. 

With the help of Naseeban, Rukayya cares for Pari as her own child and makes her a young, smart, and vibrant lady. While Pari is loved by her mother figure Rukayya, she’s hated by Apa Bi. Apa Bi calls her granddaughter a ‘dayan,’ and even claims that she will bring only disasters to the whole house. A few years later, Pari becomes a grown-up woman while Rukayya has crossed thirty and is now told old to get married. Pari is highly possessive of Rukayya and hates Aazam, whom she believes will marry Rukayya. He soon develops a liking for Rukayya, and gets close to Pari.

Things take a pitiful turn when Pari starts experiencing attacks. Even after being taken to the Hakim in the Mosque, her health isn’t showing any apparent improvement. When Aazam gets to know about all of this, he takes her his home for a good treatment, as he does not trust the Hakim. It was soon discovered that Pari has Epilepsy and personality disorder. Aazam soon confesses to Rukayya that the only reason why he cares for Pari is because she is so dear to Rukayya. He tells her about his real intentions and attraction towards her, but Rukayya disapproves and turns down the offer for marriage. She does so by telling him that she’s older than him and so that marriage cannot happen.  After returning to the Haveli, Rukayya receives plenty of letters from Aazam confessing his unabashedly solid feelings for her. Soon, they get married. How does this marriage affect Pari? Is she again left all alone, without a parental figure in her life? The rest of the story deals with that.
