The story revolves around a love story between two childhood friends. Banno is a young lady who is working in an office. She comes from a lower-middle-class family. Her family includes her mother and younger sister. Her father had passed away, and they had to live a poor life. The mother wants her daughters to get married in rich houses to improve their poor lifestyle. She actively searches for men for her older daughter. Banno has a friend, Maggu, in the same colony. They have been good friends since childhood. Maggu is a young and lazy man. He has a younger brother and father in his family. His mother was no more. He does not want to work but to have a business. He constantly asks for money from his father to invest in his business but is rejected.

Maggu’s father wants him to get married, but he gets rejected every time as he has no job. His father is stressed for him. Maggu expresses his wish to marry Banno. Banno laughs at Maggu as he dares to ask for marriage to a girl with no job. Maggu does not take it to his heart and leaves. He does not meet Banno for two days, and she becomes anxious to see him. Banno’s mother asks her to marry an old man to get his property and have a luxurious lifestyle. Banno does not like the idea and rejects it. She realizes that she loves Maggu, and accepts her proposal. However, her mother is not happy about it as Maggu is not rich.
