The story revolved around the life of a passionate girl, Daneen. Daneed lived with her father Zahid and grandfather Arshad. She is also shown to be in love with the wealthy Areesh, who also happens to be her second cousin. Areesh was raised by and lives with his grandmother, Sadia Begum, who also raised her two distant relatives Altamash and his younger sister Anya. Altamash, in the beginning of the show, is Areesh’s closest friend but dislikes Daneen. Sadia Begum is also against Daneen and Areesh’s relationship because of a very old family feud. Sadia’s older son Waleed was in love with Daneen’s paternal aunt who rejected him and caused the former to commit suicide. Nazia, Daneen’s aunt, chose to marry Azam, Waleed’s best friend instead and was thus banished by Arshad, her father, 25 years ago. Nazia and Azam are seen to be living with their only daughter, Izza.

The show proceeds and deals with the obstacles Daneen and Areesh face in their lives but how they love each other. In the course of the show, Areesh’s wedding is arranged with Anya and Daneen’s grandfather suffers a heart attack. Daneen also meets Izza, without having any clue that the latter is her first cousin. Later, Daneen’s father finds out that Izza is his niece and he then mends relations with his sister, Nazia. After facing many obstacles, Daneen and Areesh get engaged towards the end of the show. Izza and Altamash also become close and fall in love. As Areesh plans to take Daneen out of Pakistan and confides to Anya about the same, she plays an evil card and gets Daneen kidnapped. Some events lead to Daneen trying to attempt suicide but she is rushed to the ICU where Areesh visits her.

The show ends on a sad note for Daneen and Areesh as Daneen moves to the States and marries Saif and Areesh accepts his fate. On the other hand, Izza and Altamash get happily married and live in peace. Anaa thus is a light-hearted serial without much over dramatic expressions and shows twisted family ties.
