Vasantham Star is a Tamil language singing reality television show. Various participants are selected and made contestants of the show. They are then made to compete with each other in different rounds. They all are given a score based on their performances. The one with the highest average score by the end of the show is declared as the winner. In each round, a certain number of participants are also eliminated based on scoring to contain the competition so that choosing the winner becomes easy. The only difference between a reality show and a singing reality show is that in the latter, the main focus of the show is kept contained to singing. Vasantham Star also does the same and follows the same template of singing shows. The show was launched in 2005 as a major Tamils' singing show. That season became a huge success because the format is still new in that region. Soon the show was renewed for another season and just like this, the show has had in total five seasons. The 2015 version of the show is the fifth season of Vasantham Star and marked the return of the television show after a huge gap of three years. This made people very hyped about the show and it showed in the ratings of the show which were off the charts.

The show had a great selection of contestants who all stood out in terms of their singing talent. The show had exceptional performances by all of them. The show was won by the brilliant and talented, Subashini. The show ended its hugely successful run on television in October of 2015 after becoming one of the most-watched shows in Tamil. The show also stood out among its own as the 2015 version of the show had the highest rating among them all and was deemed as the most successful among the lot. The show airs on the hugely popular Tamil language channel, Vasantham which is a Singapore free-to-air channel owned by Mediacorp's. The channel after its launch in 1995 attracts the audience with its hugely entertaining shows. Vasantham aired some of the original shows, which eventually worked in the favor of the channel.
