It was a blockbuster hit, even Shankar would not have even thought about it. His second movie is Kadhalan with Prabhu Deva. Nagma was introduced in this film by Shankar and the film is a super hit. The songs went very well with A.R. Rahman in the music composing side. After Kadhalan, S Shankar’s market picked up very well and he directed Indian, a patriotic film with Kamal Haasan. Unlike other directors, Shankar never thought to rush up in committing films. He deeply discusses the story and then commits in each and every film. He screwed up the market of Prashanth through Jeans. Jeans was the second film of Aishwarya Rai in which she paired Prashanth. In Jeans, Prashanth and Nassar had dual roles and this film is also a good rhythmic film by Rahman. Mudhalvan also hit the theatres for more than 100 successful days and Arjun and Raghuvaran were applauded for their roles. He introduced many young faces to the film industry through Boys. The film has Siddharth, Nakul, Bharath, Genelia and Thaman. Sivaji with Rajini was said to be the high budget film, which was produced under AVM banner. After the success of Sivaji, he did one more film with Rajini, called Enthiran. That was also a hit movie with Aishwarya Rai alongside Rajini. 11. Suriya Sivakumar

s/u/r/i/y/a/suriya-sivakumar.png

Suriya Sivakumar is undoubtedly the biggest star in contemporary Tamil film yet most critics would agree that he is truly a ‘real and spontaneous’ actor who can match any character that he plays in screen. His rise in Kollywood cinema came at a time when commercial Tamil films tended to shy away from the dark themes and ambivalent morality associated with film and style. The popularity of Ghajini proved that the level of negativity that the audiences could bear. When A.R Murugadoss selected Suriya to don the role in Ghajini, he knew how it would work with mainstream audiences and was almost right. Truly, this actor had overcome his father’s shadow and moved to be one of the most talented actor, whose films got inspired by even Aamir Khan and even Ajay Devgan. Aamir Khan had showered him praise for his performance in Ghajini and wanted to re-make the same film in Hindi. The question remains still, when Aamir had over-acted in the Hindi version, Suriya had just down played the character suitably. Although Suriya was never seen in any Hindi film (except Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakht Charitra), Suriya’s name became quite popular even in Hindi belt, just because Aamir Khan was doing the Hindi version of Ghajini. Similarly, when Singham was remade for Hindi belt audiences, even Ajay Devgan got inspired to play the police role by just watching how Suriya did the same role. Suriya’s filmography shows that he avoided being typecast and yet proved that his fans would find his films “ an out and out” Suriya’s show. Suriya has made his own identity and was crowned with ‘ dashing star’ tag. The screen name Suriya was given to him by Mani Ratnam. Earlier, this actor had always tried to shy away from camera and never even dreamt to be an actor. In the beginning of his career, one could see him doing some supporting actor role with Vikram and Vijay, but he could steal the show under their nose even. Take the example of his role in Bala's Pithamagan, along with Vikram or even in Mani Ratnam's political drama Aayutha Ezhuthu along with Madhavan and Siddharth, Suriya’s best career time was when Perazhagan got released and his fans and critics applauded him for playing the first dual role in screen. May be after seeing this film, Murugadoss selected him to play the role of a patient who suffered from short-term memory loss and Suriya Sivakumar played his first role (Ghajini) of angry young man who had a rife with corruption and who was blocked off any avenues for justice. Indian cinema had seen earlier only Amitabh Bachchan and perhaps Sunil Dutt (Mother India) playing such anti-hero character so suitably. In 2006, he also had starred with his wife Jyothika( not married then) in N Krishna’ s film ‘Sillunu Oru Kaadhal', where again Suriya had done a fantastic job, He also played dual roles in ‘’Vaaranam Aayiram’’, ‘’Vel’’ ‘’Perazhagan", ", "Maatran" and "7 am Arivu’’, and "Anjaan". He is a few actors in Kollywood whose married life with actress Jyothika, remained untouched with rumour. Their love story too happened slowly when “Kaakha Kaakha” happened, and now they are married and have two kids.

21-01-2020/santhanam.jpg Santhanam is a Tamil movie actor who is famous for his timing-rhyming comedies and counters. He, prior to entering the cine industry, acted for some comedy programs for Win TV, but it was Vijay TV’s ‘LolluSabha’ - a program that spoofs movies, gave his major breakthrough. It was his astounding performance in that program that gained him an entry into the silverscreen when STR spotted him and gave him a role of a college student in his crime-thriller movie ‘Manmathan’. Santhanam has established himself as one of the most contemporary comedians in the Tamil cine industry by acting with almost all heroes. There was a period when heroes were waiting for his callsheet, and all movies that had his comedies featured were hit, regardless of the main plot.

Unlike comedians of his previous era, he prefers to perform together with the antagonist and thus adding to a flavour of comedy throughout the movie. He has 5 bagged consecutive Vijay awards for the ‘The Best Comedian’ right from 2009 till 2013, the Edison award and the SIIMA award for the same category in 2013 and 2011 respectively. Santhanam during a show in Vijay TV mentioned that it will be always his alma mater, no matter how much heights he scales.

Santhanam has got into several controversies as well through his dialogs that sound funny when watching, but tend to hurt people’s feelings. Several protests were also held against his dialogs, which led to the censor of such dialogs. He was also accused of trying to imitate the legendary comedian Koundamani who makes fun of everyone, in every way possible. However, he rejected that claim stating that he doesn’t imitate anyone.

Santhanam’s biggest blockbusters were those with director M.Rajesh’s comedy trilogy – ‘Siva ManasulaSakthi(SMS)’ , ‘Boss EngiraBaskaran’ and ‘OruKalOruKannadi(OK OK)’ and ‘Siruthai’ in which he starred alongside Karthi for the first time. He also owns a production company called Handmade films that produced his story ‘Kanna Laddu Thinga Aasaya’ and also ‘Vallavanuku Pullum Aayudham’. He was the single lead hero in the latter and it won him good reviews for his all-round performance. He acted and also served as the assistant director of the Tamil remake of Delhi Belly which was directed by R.Kannan. So far, he has acted in about 75 movies and has produced 2 of them.

Santhanam expressed his desire to direct Tamil movies with a comedy-sentiment genre and claimed that he would tend to explore some areas that covered India’s vast heritage. He encourages fresh young minds into the industry and is a hard worker. It is only his hard work and hilarious thoughts that has brought him to the top positions of Tamil cinema. ‘Santhanam memes’ are very popular in social networking websites and they mostly comprise of “My reaction when…” type.
