They showed the elephants that were kept captive for the traditions. This show played an important role in educating people about Kerelaa culture and generating awareness about its importance.
Thechikottukavo Ramachandran was also a celebrity elephant. He was famous and well-appreciated by people. This show starred another famous elephant named, Kandampully Balanarayan. All of these elephants were loved by many people and had their importance in their culture. Thiruvambadi Sivasundar, an elephant named after lord Shiva's beauty, was a delightful experience for the viewers.
Kerela's festival season stretches from December to May, these elephants are so busy that they can't get even one day off. Some of the Elephants killed a few people by trampling them to death. In any other case, any animal would have been killed on the site, but these elephants get the privilege of being worshipped in this culture. People are in awe of their majestic looks and darkly handsome features.
These elephants have been a symbol of status since the feudal era. Kerela is the only state where elephants are used for temple festivals. No one knows how and when this tradition started. These elephants were initially used in battles as they were owned by private individuals. Soon, they were replaced by machines and advanced weapons, so the owners had to find a way to earn for these high-maintenance animals. For this reason, they were integrated into religious festivities.
