Maatandre Maatu is a Kannada language TV show that aired on Kalki Kannada, a 24-7 news channel, every Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 pm. The show was hosted by Murali. It was a talk show where two groups, each consisting of about twenty to thirty people, sit on bleachers set up opposite each other in the studio. A spectator, or a judge, is seated at the back of the centre of the stage, where the host stands. Each episode features a social issue that the guests are somehow involved in. They are first given a chance to express their views on the issue at hand. They talk about the problems they have personally faced, they have seen others go through, the society’s part in it, the stand that was taken by the government, and related topics.
The session quickly escalates to a heated argument with both the parties contradicting each other’s statements. The host acts as a buffer between the two groups. The judge, who is usually a person with an educated opinion and experience on the matter, corrects both the parties and expresses her views on settling it. After her speech, the guests are again given a chance to express their concerns regarding her suggestion. By the time the show ends, the judge will have given her final statement, and the guests will have an idea of what measures to take to solve their problems.
