The first episodes focus on the life and times of “Iron Lady”, Indira Gandhi, her high's and lows.
It shows how Indira started progressively moving to the Left ideology and how her “GaribiHatao” campaign reversed her election fortunes in 1971. It highlights the Indo-Pak war of 1971, India’s victory and the formation of Bangladesh that happened to be her biggest achievement. The Indira Wave is vehemently opposed despite this victory due to various causes. The opposition, the show depicts, was strongest in Bihar and Gujarat.
The next episodes present the background and the immediate causes of the 1975 National Emergency In Bihar, Jayprakash Narayan, the veteran leader, lead the crusade against Gandhi. Then, the verdict on electoral malpractice leads to massive protests as a result of which Gandhi tried to restore peace and order by making several prominent leaders serve terms behind bars which happened to be her biggest blunder. The next phase of the series highlights Operation Bluestar, one of the critical shapers of modern Indian political history showing the confrontation between Indira’s Army and the Sikh rebels of Akali Dal resulting in artillery attacks inside the Golden Temple, Amritsar. The last part of the series evaluates critically Rajiv Gandhi’s era and how his political intent marked the beginning of India’s economic history.
