Sangharsh is a Hindi tv serial that was telecasted on the Doordarshan channel. The concept is by Hemaprava Das, written by Jinti Deka. It is directed by Nirmal Bezbaruah and produced by Dilip Chandra Goswami. “Sangharsh” is a Hindi word for hardships and struggles of life. The show throws light on the discrimination between female and male children, in episode one, the protagonist’s mother-in-law hates her granddaughter because she wanted a grandson. It portrays the natural face of society where women are demeaned for their independent behavior and treated as mere burdens. Kavita is deprived of her fundamental right to education. Lata is forced by her father to marry a prospective suitor; she is denied to choose her partner. She does not have the right to choose her career or to study further and be independent financially. The show tries to speak about the patriarchal world and male hegemony. It also speaks about the domestic violence against women and treats them as inferior. It is based in Guwahati and also talks about ‘Make in India.’
