The 9th Filmfare Awards happened on May 20, 1962 in Bombay, India. The 1960 Hindi film, Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai got four awards out of eight nominations, including the Best Movie Award, Best Actor Award, Best Editing and Best Art Direction. portrays the role of Raju, an orphan singer in the film that gained him the Best Actor accolade. G.G Mayekar got the Best Editing Award and film art director, M. R. Acharekar received the Best Art Direction Award again.

Film actress, Vyjayanthimala Bali won as the Best Actress of this year’s Filmfare. This is her third Filmfare award and also her 2nd Best Actress trophy after performing as Dhanno opposite in the dacoit drama film, Gunga Jumna. Film actor, who portrayed different roles in over 80 Hindi films received the Best Supporting Actor Award after doing the role of Kaalia, a thief in the film, Kanoon. The director of the film, B. R. Chopra got his first Filmfare Award after winning the Best Director Award.

Music director, Ravi received the Best Music Director Award for the film, Gharana while the Best Lyricist Award goes to for Husn Wale Tera in Gharana. received the Best Playback Singer Award for the Hindi movie, Sasural.

Screenwriter, C. V. Sridhar, who penned and directed the black and white melo-drama film, Nazrana received the Best Story Award. Other technical awards goes to screenwriter and filmmaker, for Best Dialogue in Gunga Jumna; G. G. Mayekar won the Best Editing Award for Raj Kapoor’s starrer film, Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai; V. Balasaheb won the Best Cinematography Award for Gunga Jumna; 3rd time winner, M. R. Acharekar won the same Best Art Direction Award for Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai and the Best Sound Design goes to for the super hit film, Junglee.
