Aanandi is yet another adaptation of the renowned serial named ‘Balika Vadhu’. The serial revolves around two children named Aanandi and Jagdish, and how child marriage affects the people who are its victims. The show begins with Aanandi and Jagdish getting married. They are both portrayed as very young kids who don't even realize the whole concept of marriage. After the ceremony, the eight-year-old Anandi gets introduced to all the difficulties that she has to face in her in-laws. Suddenly, the role of being a friend, a loving wife, a diligent daughter-in-law, and a lover her overwhelmed. However, as time passes she learns to accept her new role and duties and makes sure that the entire family accepts her as an equal.

Jagdish and Aanandi continue to have minor misunderstandings and frequent quarrels among themselves considering the fact that they both were still kids and were in the process of growing up. One such quarrel and misunderstanding regarding marks in examination lead Jagdish to ultimately leave the house in a fury and upon doing so he gets kidnapped by some goons in Mumbai. This leads to a scandal where the police get involved and Aanandi along with the goons and Jagdish have a faceoff. The goons try to kill Jagdish but Aanandi takes a bullet in his stead and this shocks Jagdish. He realizes his mistake and they both return home. Aanandi goes back to her village to recover. After 5 years she returns to her in-laws.

Both Aanandi and Jagdish fall in love and have a happy married life. However, everything changes when Jagdish goes to Mumbai for his college education. He meets a woman named Gauri over there and falls in love with her because of her kind nature and education. He insults Aanandi because she is uneducated. Later when he decides to marry Gauri and Gauri accepts the proposal Jagdish confesses the truth to Aanandi and states that he was not in love with Aanandi and instead wants to marry Gauri. Heartbroken, Aanandi decides to accept the confession and allows Jagdish to marry Gauri. Aanandi also refuses to place charges against Jagdish after being advised by her family to do so by stating that there would be no point in doing so because marriage would be valid only if the love in our hearts is true and pure.

After the marriage between Gauri and Jagdish Gauri is promptly refused by her in-laws who still consider Aanandi as their own. This in turn makes Gauri vengeful towards the family and Aanandi. Aanandi decides to improve herself and mend her life. She slowly builds her social circle and becomes the village Sarpanch and also educates the children about child marriage and the harm it causes. Eventually, she decides to let go of the past and decides to divorce Jagdish which makes Jagdish furious and he asks for a share in the property. Aanandi now stands up for herself and refuses to do as told. She also states that she would place charges against him for adultery if he did not accept a calm and peaceful divorce. Jagdish reluctantly agrees. How Aanandi builds her life after the divorce and whether she finds true love in her life along with fighting for society is what constitutes the rest of the episodes.
