Ara Nazikha Neram(English: Only Half Hour) was a TV show in Malayalam. It was aired on Amrita TV. The show was a television adaptation of a novel of the same name by Parappuram. The show was critically acclaimed and won multiple State Television Awards during its run. The plot was inspired by the novel by Parappuram. Parappuram is often regarded as one of the giants of Malayalam literature. His work has been critically acclaimed and widely appreciated including the Sahitya Akademi Award. The show adapted the story for television, for its run of 40 episodes. The show revolves around an orthodox Christian family in Kerala.

The protagonist of the show is Kunchenachan, a patriarch, and head of the family. The show chronicles the last few hours of his life as he remembers it. Through the eyes of this aged man, the show tries to show the emotional turmoil a man has to go through. The show revolves around Kunchenachan, his four sons - Mathukutty, Gheevergeese and Kunju Cherukkan and Phillipose and their respective families. The family has a lot of problems that they face regularly. Each member of the family has their own set of problems and turmoil that they go through. Kunchenachan finds this hard and is often unable to cope up.

He mostly is frustrated and often faces mood swings that are difficult for his family to handle. In order to keep up with the problems and the stress, he finds solace with his friend – Kurup, who is a Hindu. They both have passionate and lengthy discussions about various things, especially religion. Kunchenachan finds this friendship comforting and helpful to cope with the stress. Kurup know the stress that his friend is undergoing and provides him opium regularly, in order for him to get a good sleep. Things change drastically when Kunchenachan starts seeing Abraham in his dreams, who proclaims that he only has half an hour to live.

Kunchenachan takes this a sign and vows to set things right before his death. The opium he takes regularly bites him back and he suffers a heart attack leaving him bedridden. The doctor advises Kunchenachan to avoid opium in order to live, which he finds hard to follow. After suffering a heart attack and recovering, Kunchenachan finds his daughter-in-law, Denamma with Kurup in a compromising situation. This leaves him in a shock and in the process he falls down. Being spotted scares both Kurup and Denamma and they both hatch a plan to kill Kunchenachan to save themselves.

They mix poison in the opium he regularly takes which kills Kunchenacha. Denamma is unable to live with the guilt and takes the poison herself and dies. The show beautifully chronicles the relationship between action and consequences. The various members of the family have a lot of bearing on Kunchenachan’s life. Their actions affected him drastically, which eventually led to his death. It only strengthens the belief that everyone must pay for their actions. Sometimes, good people get caught in the process and then have to suffer the consequences. Denamma’s weakness led to the death of a simple man, who always lived by the books.
